Positive Over Negative

“I’ve had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened.” (Mark Twain)

Thinking negative thoughts is a little like having weeds growing in your mind. They will push aside your positive thoughts and stifle your confidence.

Thinking in a positive manner serves as a protection against negative thoughts like worry and fear. Negative thoughts can undermine your confidence and breed insecurity and indecision. For example, many of the things that you worry about never happen. Yet they can still stifle your confidence and negatively inhibit your actions.

Positive thinking can work like a weed killer, where the weeds are your doubts and fears that threaten to stifle your initiative and confidence. By thinking in a positive manner, you will be guided by positive expectations that lend themselves to increasing your sense of optimism and hope.

Getting Personal

Is positive thinking primarily an attitude for people with cheerful dispositions, or can anyone learn to think positively?

“If things aren’t going so well, I try to stay positive and not give in to negative thoughts.” (Rosanna Arquette, American actress)

“Keep your word positive. Words become your behaviors. Keep your behaviors positive. Behaviors become your habits. Keep your habits positive. Habits become your values. Keep your values positive. Values become your destiny.” (Mahatma Gandhi, Indian political independence, non-violent civil rights leader)
