The Best Minds

Buiding with open and closed windows
“It’s a huge disservice to classify all minds as either closed or open. I find the best minds are closed by openable windows.” (Criss Jami)

The goal of education should be to develop minds with openable windows. Intelligent and wise enough to open up to new and valuable ideas, but also to stay closed in the face of false, unproductive, prejudiced, and destructive information and opinions.

Getting Personal

How would you evaluate the recent growing movement in many local communities in the U.S. of book banning? How does book banning affect the development of minds with openable windows?

“The object of opening the mind, as of opening the mouth, is to shut it again on something solid.” (Gilbert K. Chesterton)

“When my information changes, I alter my conclusions. What do you do, sir?” (John Maynard Keynes)

“By all means let’s be open-minded, but not so open-minded that our brains drop out.” (Richard Dawkins)
