Becoming Wiser with Quotations

Quotations are a bridge to wisdom
Quotations can be a bridge to wisdom
“The number one purpose of a quote, at least in my opinion, is to make the reader think. When reading a quote, usually by thinking about it and letting it mull over in our minds we can come to a fuller understanding of what the person is trying to say.” (Joseph Geran III)

Quotations can help you become wiser by igniting your intellect and imagination. They inspire you to recognize, in a relatively few words or sentences, underlying complex and meaningful themes and principles about human life. And the more attention and effort you give them, the greater your understanding of these meanings can be.

However, recognizing these meanings is only an important beginning of a more involved process. It is perhaps the most entertaining and inspiring phase of reading quotations, but it is not all there is to it.

Powerful quotations challenge us to personalize these meanings to ourselves through reflection and insight, and then to making them relevant by using them to guide us to make wise choices and to take right actions in our lives.
