Without preparation and being prepared, many an opportunity will simply be missed. You will either not recognize the opportunity or only notice it as it passes you by.
Success will often depend on your ability to recognize opportunities when they arise, and this ability will depend on your having clear and motivated goals, as well as prior experience and training. Having a focused concentration on your goals and capabilities will enable you to recognize situations as opportunities, and not simply as irrelevant passing events.
The most important factor will depend on “your preparation.” No matter what the circumstances, if you bring preparedness of mind and skills to the moment when an opportunity arises, you will be able to respond not only in a timely manner, but in the most resourceful and effective way in which you are capable.
Getting Personal
Have you ever missed an opportunity because you weren’t motivated or focused enough? Looking back, you realize you blew it, because, at the time, you failed to see it. If you had been more in tune with your interests and goals you definitely would have seen it, and benefitted from it. Give an example.
“I will prepare and some day my chance will come.” (Abraham Lincoln, 16th U.S. president, 19th century)
“Sometimes opportunities float right past your nose. Work hard, apply yourself, and be ready. When an opportunity comes you can grab it.” (Julie Andrews Edwards, English actress and singer)
