The Courage to Press On

“Courage takes many forms. There is physical courage, there is moral courage. Then there is a still higher type of courage–the courage to brave pain, to live with it, to never let others know of it and to still find joy in life; to wake up in the morning with an enthusiasm for the day ahead.” (Howard Cosell)

The determination to carry on in the face of pain is one of the unsung forms of courage.

Chronic pain and intermittent episodes of pain are common occurrences in life, and among life’s most challenging experiences.

It takes courage to successfully manage experiences of pain and to carry on with one’s life with a positive and constructive attitude. And yes, it is a genuine and important form of success, well deserving of recognition and praise.

“Courage isn’t having the strength to go on – it is going on when you don’t have strength.” Napoleon Bonaparte

“With determination, it is possible to block out the negative things and enjoy the positive ones, despite the cons. Most importantly, it is possible to dance through everything pernicious.” Sarah Todd Hammer

“You just do it. You force yourself to get up. You force yourself to put one foot before the other and you refuse to let it get to you. You fight. You cry. Then you go about the business of living. That’s how I’ve done it. There’s no other way.” Elizabeth Taylor
