Forgive and Get Unstuck

****
Forgive and move on
“Nothing on earth consumes a man more quickly than the passion of resentment.” (Friedrich Nietzsche)

If our mind and emotions remain set on resenting and complaining, we will make ourselves the repeated victim of that which caused our resentment.

Anger and resentment are like emotional parasites. They take over your mental and emotional functions and disable your capacities for positive and constructive feelings and actions. Anger, hurt, and resentment also create a negative emotional burden and dependency, causing you to remain stuck in the past. The way you act in the present and towards the future becomes dependent on and controlled by the past.

This is the reason forgiveness is viewed as such a powerful restorative and constructive form of action. By freeing yourself from being controlled by anger and resentment, you can now focus on what is useful for the attainment of your present and longer-term goals. Through forgiveness you sow the seeds of your future success.

Getting Personal

Have you ever experienced the problem of having difficulty overcoming resentment caused by a loss or injury?

If so, what was it that allowed you to accept your loss, get over your resentment, and move on?

Have you ever been unable to forgive and move on? When? Why?

“The truth is, unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize the situation is over, you cannot move forward.” (Steve Maraboli, American motivational speaker)

“Forgiveness means letting go of the past.” (Gerald Jampolsky, American psychologist)
