Getting Beyond Your Comfort Zone

“A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there.” (John Assaraf)

Being able to move beyond one’s comfort zone is one of the stickiest of challenges to achieving personal development. There are many who would like to make personal changes and better develop themselves, but who get stuck in their comfort zones.

As defined by Roy Bennett, “The comfort zone is a psychological state in which one feels familiar, safe, at ease, and secure.” It is the psychological state in which most people spend most of their time, and unfortunately, it is also the state in which meaningful personal development is least likely to occur.

As pointedly stated by Manaj Arora, “Comfort is your biggest trap and coming out of your comfort zone your biggest challenge.”

Getting Personal

If your comfort zone is where you feel safe, at ease and secure, why would you ever intentionally want to leave it? Wouldn’t you always want to preserve it and continue enjoying its comfort?

“The only thing that is stopping you from where you are to where you want to go is your comfort zone.”  (Dhaval Gaudier)

“Real change is difficult at the beginning, but gorgeous at the end. Change begins the moment you get the courage and step outside your comfort zone; change begins at the end of your comfort zone.” (Roy T. Bennett, American author, motivational speaker)

“Are you really happy or just comfortable?”  (Unknown)
