Resilience and Success

****
“Success is to be measured not so much by the position one has reached in life as by the obstacles which they have overcome.” (Booker T. Washington)

The important thing about having had obstacles in your life is not the fact that you had them. Everyone faces obstacles during their lives. The important thing is how you react to and handle them, how you manage to overcome them and then move on.

When you pursue success in some area of life, you can invariably expect to face challenges, and you may be confronted by disappointments, and even occasional failures. However, always remember that it is how you handle these challenges and the way you try to overcome them that will be the most crucial factor.

Your ability to be resilient in the face of challenging and perhaps potentially demoralizing experience will often be the key factor enabling your eventual success. You need to be able to continue to move forward with confidence and optimism, no matter the hurdles and problems you face, so that you can ultimately achieve your goals.

Getting Personal

Give an example of an obstacle that you have overcome in the past. Do you feel that by overcoming that obstacle, you became stronger? If so, how did it make you stronger?

“Do not judge me by my success. Judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.” (Nelson Mandela, South African anti-apartheid leader)

“Life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving: we get stronger, and more resilient.” (Steve Maraboli, motivational speaker, author)
