If you are not attentive to the issue of importance and priorities, you could end up spending most of your time doing what is not that important, both in terms of human values and personal meaning.
We live in the age of multi-tasking, dealing with more than one thing at a time, and with multiple identities, where our interests and obligations are spread out among different groups and activities, like our families, our friends, our jobs, our recreational activities, our religious affiliations, and our communities, etc., and as a result we are challenged to allocate our time and energies wisely.
As a result we are often pushed and pulled in different directions, and we can easily end up being distracted and prevented from giving enough time and attention to those things that are most important to us.
Getting Personal
Making a living and surviving are urgent issues for everyone. How do you personally manage this requirement so that what is most important to you remains your highest priority?
“Perpetual devotion to what a man calls his business, is only to be sustained by perpetual neglect of many other things.” (Robert Louis Stevenson, Scottish novelist, essayist)
” Our greatest fear should not be of failure, but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter.” (Francis Chan, American author, pastor)
“The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule but to schedule your priorities.” (Stephen Covey, American author, educator)
