The Courage to Take Risks

“There are various forms of courage, namely, the capacity to envisage danger and yet proceed with the course of action that brings the danger on.” (Erving Goffman)

If you have a dream, make sure you consider the possible risks, and then if you have the courage, take the risks, knowing full well that it may not all be smooth sailing.

Achieving a goal often requires exercising courage, because in order to attain your goal you will encounter possible dangers. For example, you may want to find a new job, but if you quit your current job you run the risk of being unemployed for longer than you can afford or of if you do find a new job quickly, it may turn out that you don’t like that job either.

It will take courage to take action, and to actually expose yourself to the risks entailed by taking that action.

“You cannot swim for new horizons until you have courage to lose sight of the shore.” William Faulkner

To win without risk is to triumph without glory.”  Pierre Corneille

“Progress always involves risk; you can’t steal second base and keep your foot on first.”  Frederick B. Wilcox
