Rest, Don’t Quit

“If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit.” (Banksy)

If you get tired in the course of pursuing a goal, especially one that you take seriously, there’s a possibility that your tiredness could throw your perspective off-course, and lead you to impatiently decide to quit.

Often, it takes dedication and patience to reach a goal. It may take longer than you had planned or require more effort than you had thought, which by themselves are not good reasons to give up entirely on a goal.

Resting gives you a chance to relieve your weariness, renew your perspective, and then decide whether to continue on or change course. After resting, you may come to feel that it is still a good and potentially rewarding idea to continue.

Quitting due to tiredness, however, is an ill-advised solution, allowing yourself to be overcome by impatience and a lack of foresight, and potentially leading to you missing out on what were still attainable personally worthwhile goals.

Getting Personal

Have you ever given up on a goal due to tiredness and fatigue, only later to regret having done so.

Looking back, why do you feel that when you gave up on your goal, you did so prematurely, and today still have some doubts about the wisdom of your having done so?

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” (Thomas Edison)

“Sometimes the best solution is to rest, relax and recharge. It’s hard to be your best on empty” (Sam Glenn, American author and motivational speaker)

“You’ll be surprised to know how far you can go from the point where you thought it was the end.” (unknown)
