Knowing and Doing What’s Right

“Know what’s important and what isn’t. Have the wisdom to know the right thing to do, the integrity to do it, the character to stand up to those who don’t, and the courage to stop those who don’t.” (Mark Goulston)

There are few simpler yet more insightful principles of successful living than “Knowing and doing the right thing.”

  1. WISDOM – guides us to know what is important and what is right.
  2. COURAGE – gives us the strength and conviction to follow through on doing what is right
  3. CHARACTER – gives us the confidence and inspiration to do the right thing
  4. INTEGRITY – gives us the self-control and awareness to create consistency between our values and our actions

However, it is also true that there are fewer principles that are so often challenging to live up to.

Getting Personal

Have you ever been in a situation where you clearly knew what the right thing to do was, but you were UNABLE do it? Why were you unable to do it.?

Have you ever been in a situation where you clearly knew what the right thing to do was, but you were UNWILLING to do it? Why were you unwilling to do it?

The truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do. The hard part is doing it.” (Norman Schwarzkopf, American Army general)

Have the courage to say no. Have the courage to face the truth. Do the right thing because it is right. These are the magic keys to living your life with integrity. (W. Clement Stone, American author, businessman)
