Have You Become Sidelined by Your Job?

“A lot of people quit looking for work as soon as they find a job.” (Zig Ziglar)

Jobs are crucial for surviving and making a living, but they can also serve as a huge distraction. Before you know it, the things you had really wanted and loved to do have become fading memories.

Now that they have a job, many people forget what they originally had set out to do and accomplish in their lives. In order to keep and do well in their jobs, they decide to settle for something less than what they originally had in mind. They stop looking for new opportunities to do the work that they had believed would most suit their talents and be most personally fulfilling.

Some call this “settling for things,” while others simply say, “that’s life.”

Getting Personal

If a person has a steady and secure job, is it worth the risk to venture out and pursue more personally fulfilling alternatives? What are some of the key factors to be considered in deciding whether or not to venture out to look for more fulfilling work?

“You must begin to think of yourself as becoming the person you want to be.” (David Viscott, American psychiatrist, author)

“Ten years from now, make sure you can say that you chose your life, you didn’t settle for it.” (Mandy Hale, American author, social media entrepreneur)

“Never settle for the lesser ambition. The job, the title, the conventional loyalties and rewards. Stay focused on the larger ambition….”  (David Ignatius, American journalist, novelist)
