The Value of a Helping Hand

****
“We rise by lifting others.” (Robert Green Ingersoll)

Helping others is empowering. It enables us to experience a feeling of accomplishment and of having done something worthwhile.

When we help others, we live up to deep-rooted moral standards of caring about our fellow human beings, and we live up to our moral standard of being responsible for assisting them when they need help; and there is great satisfaction in achieving those ends.

Helping others is also uplifting. Through empathy and compassion we share in the relief and happiness experienced by those who have been helped, and we are able to share those positive feelings with them.

Getting Personal

Have you ever helped another person or others? How did it make you feel, knowing that you contributed to helping them?

Do you believe that helping others is a responsibility of yours or just something that you may or may not feel like doing? Why or why not?

“We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.” (Winston Churchill, British Prime Minister)

Would you be a Good Samaritan?
