Empathy and Kindness

“I do not ask the wounded person how he feels. I myself become the wounded person.”

Empathy is at the foundation of kindness.

Kindness relies on your capacity to take the viewpoint of another and to have a sympathetic understanding of the risks, dangers, and personal feelings that apply in a situation.

If you want to practice kindness more, you will need to keep your capacity for empathy healthy and strong. You will need to be able to be responsive to the needs and welfare of others, guided by a sympathetic understanding of what they are seeing, thinking, and feeling.

“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” Ian MacLaren

“We must learn to regard people less in the light of what they do or omit to do, and more in the light of what they suffer.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer

“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud” Maya Angelou
