Accepting Self-responsibility

****
“There is an expiry date on blaming your parents for steering you in the wrong direction; the moment you are old enough to take the wheel, responsibility lies with you.” (J.K. Rowling)

Accepting responsibility for your life can be a scary thought. It means it is up to you, and no one else to decide what you want to do. You cannot blame anyone else if you mess up.

If you are going to become the individual you want to be and to achieve the goals you have chosen, this choice will depend primarily on YOU.

If you make poor choices along the way, you must be willing to acknowledge your faults, and not try to blame others. If you make mistakes, accept them. Having made mistakes should not define you, but rather represent an opportunity for you to learn from those mistakes and as a result to improve yourself.

Know that it is your obligation, and no one else’s, to try to overcome obstacles in your path, and it is up to you to persevere in pursuing your goals.

Getting Personal

Have you ever blamed someone else for a problem you experienced. If so, what would it look like if you decided to take responsibility for the problem, and no longer blamed another? How would releasing the blame of another shift your understanding of what you need to do and what your self-expectations should be?

“If you could kick the person in the pants responsible for most of your trouble, you wouldn’t sit for a month.” (Theodore Roosevelt, 26th U.S. president)

“The power behind taking responsibility for your actions lies in putting an end to negative thought patterns. You no longer dwell on what went wrong or focus on whom you are going to blame. You don’t waste time building roadblocks to your success. Instead, you are set free and can now focus on succeeding.” (Lorii Myers, motivational author and speaker)
