A Key to Success: Self-discipline

****
Self-discipline
“Self-discipline is the ability to make yourself do what you should do when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.” (Elbert Hubbard)

If you are looking for a trait to develop that is essential for living a successful life, it is self-discipline. Self-discipline is an integral part of willpower, and it is impossible to succeed without it.

You demonstrate self-discipline when there is something you do not feel like doing, but you do it anyway, even though you know it would be easier and more convenient not to do it. For example, you may not want to study for a test, but you push yourself to do it. You also show self-discipline when you demonstrate the capacity to pursue a career that you are passionate about, despite temptations in your path to abandon your goal.

Self-discipline applies to all areas of your life, from the way you get up in the morning, the choice of foods you eat, and the quality of efforts you make in your work. It will often make the difference between being able or not to achieve your goals and to live the kind of life you desire.

Getting Personal

Can you teach yourself self-discipline? In general, is it something hard or easy to do.? What is the best way to develop it?

“Discipline yourself to do the things you need to do when you need to do them, and the day will come when you will be able to do the things you want to do when you want to do them.” (Zig Ziglar, author, motivational speaker)
