If you are having a discussion with someone, differences of opinion should never be allowed to lead to disrespecting one another.
Disrespect will only undermine your relationship and you can be pretty confident that it will not contribute anything positive to arriving at a mutually agreeable opinion.
Maintaining your respect for one another is far more important and of greater value than that of winning an argument. Is getting the best of someone in an argument worth damaging a friendship or a working relationship with a fellow worker?
“Tolerance only for those who agree with you is no tolerance at all.” Ray Davis
“We don’t need to share the same opinions as others, but we need to be respectful.” Taylor Swift
“You don’t tell people who disagree with you they’d be better off somewhere else. And you don’t reduce them to stereotypes; you address them as fully formed people worthy of respect. You try to persuade them.” Peggy Noonan
Getting Personal
If you strongly disagree with someone, how is it possible at the same time to respect them?
