Strong Character

Strong feelings do not necessarily make a strong character. The strength of a man is to be measured by the power of the feeling he subdues not by the power which subdues him.

William Carleton

“Strong feelings do not necessarily make a strong character. The strength of a man is to be measured by the power of the feeling he subdues not by the power which subdues him.” (William Carleton)

.

Strong character shows itself in a person’s capacity to do what he or she knows is right, whether they feel like it or not.

Having a strong character is often associated with self-discipline and self-control, abilities that enable individuals to control and direct themselves by doing the needed or right thing, even under difficult and personally challenging conditions.

.

“We repeat again: strength of character does not consist solely in having powerful feelings, but in maintaining one’s balance in spite of them. Even with the violence of emotion, judgment and principle must still function like a ship’s compass, which records the slightest variations however rough the sea.” (Carl von Clausewitz)

“Do not pray for an easy life, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.” (Bruce Lee)

“Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.” (Helen Keller)
