POLITENESS/COURTESY
KINDNESS
While politeness and courtesy both play a very important and stabilizing role in maintaining relationships, their emotional impact falls short of the deeper and more lasting effects of kindness.
The impact of kindness is heartfelt, and as simply put by Frank A. Clark, “Kindness makes a fellow feel good whether it’s being done to him or by him.”
“What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness?” (Jean–Jacques Rousseau)
A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love. (Saint Basil, 4th century Turkish bishop)
“Remember, there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.” (Scott Adams, American author and cartoonist)
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” (Leo Buscaglia, American author and motivational speaker)
Getting Personal
The Random Acts of Kindness Organization https://www.randomactsofkindness.org defines random kindness as an action that is performed for another, usually a stranger, simply to bring that person happiness. Someone who performs a random act of kindness expects nothing in return.
Try it out, and see how it feels, and tell us what reaction(s) you received.
